The Windows Installer team at Microsoft is pleased to announce that
nominations are now being accepted for the Windows Installer v3.0 Beta program.
Windows Installer v3.0 (MSI 3.0) is targeted at making servicing better - this includes authoring, creating, distributing and managing updates to applications.
The goals of the MSI 3.0 Beta program are:
to solicit feedback on the new feature set
ensure application compatibility in the final release by exposing MSI 3.0 to a wide variety of MSI files and installation scenarios
allow developers to evaluate and begin to plan for features available in the final release of MSI 3.0
To register for the Windows Installer Beta Program:
1. Navigate to the site: http://www.betaplace.com
2. Use the Guest ID: MSI30
3. Complete the Windows Installer Nomination Survey Form to register as a tester for the Windows Installer Beta program.
The Windows Installer team will accept a limited number of
participants in the beta program. Nominations for the Windows Installer Beta
program will close on August 28, 2003. Participants accepted into the Windows
Installer Beta program will be contacted with their BetaPlace ID and password
during the first week of September.
The MSI 3.0 Beta1 release will be available for download and test in early September 2003. The Beta 1 release is for testing and evaluation purposes only, and is not suitable for install in production environments.
The InstallShield DevStudio 9 Beta program has started.
InstallShield DevStudio 9 is the successor for both, InstallShield Professional
and InstallShield Developer. This means you can also build non-MSI setups that
use pure InstallScript technology.
DevStudio 9 enables software developers to create InstallScript-based, Windows Installer (MSI), and smart device installations -- all while using a single, easy-to-use interface. You select the installation technology that is right for the situation. InstallShield DevStudio 9 is a direct upgrade for both InstallShield Professional and InstallShield Developer, offering distinct and familiar project types for each group of users.
Enhancements for users of InstallShield Professional 7 include:
Built-in Dialog Editor
Standalone Build module for clean build environments
New Project Assistant
Many additional third-party technology objects
Full Automation interface for programmatic modification of projects
Integration into the Visual Studio .NET IDE
Direct links from build output to Error Central
Enhancements for users of InstallShield Developer 8 include:
New MSI Debugger
New MSI Differencing tool
Direct links from build output to Error Central
New Project Assistant
XML project files, enabling enhanced source code control and the use of command line editing tools
InstallShield will give you a $50 gift certificate to Amazon.com if
you have problems migrating your Professional 7, Developer, InstallShield for
Windows Installer, or Express project into DevStudio 9!
The beta is expected to run for about four weeks.

Das Buch "Erste Schritte mit InstallShield Developer und Windows
Installer Setups" ist jetzt als eBook im Adobe Reader Format (PDF Datei)
lieferbar.
